Eba food (Swallow) is a staple Nigerian food popularly known as Garri and it is eaten across the country and in some African countries too. It is processed from a well grounded cassava (manioc) flour commonly called Garri and prepared using a hot boiling water.

 

Basically, Garri is produce from cassava while starch gotten from it is the by-product. It goes through different stages before it finally turns into garri.

What is Eba Food Made Of?

Eba is derived from garri (Refined cassava). Some Nigerians are in the lucrative business of cassava processing in other to get Garri,

The beautiful aspect of the Eba recipe is the color which is either  yellow  garri or white garri grains. This traditional side dish from Nigeria is a mixture of garri pour into boiled water in a bowl; and turn with a wooden spoon commonly called turning garri as it forms a smooth dough and finally rolled into any shape of your choice.

The yellow garri is a mixture of palm oil which quickly transform the garri into a yellow color, while the white still retains its original color.

We have different types of garri subject to the region that processed it such as Garri Ibo or Igbo garri,  garri ijebu,and garri oyo.

Garri ijebu has a tangy taste perfect for drinking and making Eba food; while the Ibo garri is made with palm oil which gives its that yellow color and perfect for swallow.

 

What is the meaning and the English word for EBA?

I'm not sure about the country of origin or the meaning of the word Eba / Garri or the English name but I do know that garin is a typical Hausa name for grain; The Hausa's also call it Tuwo teba.

Yes! Eba is a healthy diet and can be eaten by anyone except for those with certain health conditions. Moreover, eba is among Nigerian weight loss diet meal though they consume little of it.

The taste ranges from tart and sour like taste; Eba swallow taste is quite different from that of Amala food and Fufu Nigerian food.  It a kind of fufu, commonly known in Nigeria as garri; eba is made from dried and ground cassava that gives it a grainier texture than conventional cassava fufu.

There are 3 ways to enjoy Garri

·         As drink: You can add cold water, sugar, milk, peanuts (peanuts) and drink them as flakes grains.

·         The second is swallow by making small lumps using a boiling water, then dipping in any Nigerian soup.

·         You can chew Garri grain as in flakes. You can mix it with nuts (peanuts), coconuts, or palm nuts.

 Eba Food Ingredients are not much is one of the simplest of all foods, it only just 2 ingredients.

·         Deep bowl

·         Turning spoon (Turning garri stick) spatula

·         kettle or pot

 

Instructions on how to make lump free Eba Food

1. First, boil water in a pot or kettle

2. Secondly, pour the boiled water into the bowl and add spray the garri all over the hot water

3. Thereafter, turn with a spatula / turning stick spoon  until everything is smooth

4. Lastly, serve and enjoy with any soup of your choice

 

How Do You Eat Eba Food?

First of all wash your hands, then a small amount of Eba food is taken by the fingers, roll into a ball and then dipped into a delicious Nigerian soups like Egusi soup, Efo riro, bitter leaf soup (Ofe Onugbo), pepper soup, okra soup, vegetable soup and so on.
